This was MEANT to be a river cruise down the Nile - the perfect way (I thought) to visit Egypt. However, the war in the Middle East 'put paid' to that plan back in November 2023 (we did not feel like being anywhere in the vicinity of Israel, Egypt, Jordan, etc.). So those plans are 'on hold' - possibly for ever now.
Instead, we are going to an area so far away from the Middle East, that there is no comparison in terms of landscape, culture, food, history, etc.
We will fly into Copenhagen (Denmark) but not stay here at all. We will take the train from the airport to Gothenburg (aka Göteborg) in Sweden. A night here, then on to the Göta Canal area for 5 nights. I was meant to cycle this but as I have a broken arm, this is not feasible so Andrew will cycle and I have a Plan B (I hope ...).
We return to Gothenburg for another night, then train to Oslo for one night then train to Bergen.
In Bergen we start the cruise that 'replaces' our Nile trip and spend 12 nights onboard, exploring the Norwegian coast, across to the Faroe Islands (Denmark) then on to Iceland.
In Reykjavik, we have an additional 3 nights. Then home.

Sounds much more exciting than the Nile. Fingers crossed foe 'Plan B' 😊
