It’s been just great. Hard to believe we’ve actually got here to these Norse destinations. And I have to say it has completely met our expectations.
And in our entire time away we have not used cash of ANY sort - it’s been a completely cashless holiday for EVERYTHING (including WCs - ha ha). THAT has just been superb!
Here we are at the bus stop at 3:40 am (yes a.m.) waiting on a cold street corner for the airport bus. It’s not raining and the wind is OK - not anything like yesterday when we were doubled over walking against it.
It was a smaller transfer bus to the bus terminal then the main bus - 45 minutes to Keflavik Airport. All electronic and self-serve. No-one looked at a passport …
About 3 hours to Oslo (Norway) - got two big mugs of coffee at the airport there ($A15 for 2 - already cheaper than Iceland).
Wet, grey and very bleak-looking outside. We were here 6-7 August on our way to take the train to Bergen to start the cruise - the weather back then was beautiful: warm and sunny. How lucky were we!
A 6+ hr flight to Doha. A good Harvey Keitel movie enroute but really the star was Ron Perlman who I haven’t seen before and was terrific (?’The Baker).
A bit of a wait here now before last sector to Melbourne. Plane leaves almost an hour late …
Only (!) 13.5 hours to Melbourne. Very little in the way of decent movies. Got some sleep.
Arrived in a tad after midnight. Staying airport hotel. Train home tomorrow.
POSTSCRIPT: the day we left, there was yet another eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula at 9:26 pm: the 6th since December. The fishing village of Grindavik had only about 22-23 houses still occupied after most people had already left and those remaining have now been evacuated.

Welcome back , what amazing scenery you enjoyed, I’ll have to rethink our next trip!!! See you back home cheers Jenny
